In just a little bit, the Corncrake path (the Spring Trail) will be established!
The workers of Notranjska Park are setting up diligently and neatly one of the most beautiful walking trails in the Notranjska Park, a path with a working title of Corncrake, a bird that nests in the dense grasses and is only active at night.
With its dangled strong legs, the Corncrake looks pretty clumsy, but this bird get around well on the floor much better. On summer nights, as if forgetting their shyness, the males call their chosen ones loud. The characteristic “krrrek – krrrek”, reminiscent of the grinding of a grass that gave this bird scientific and Slovenian name, can be heard up to 1 km away on quiet nights.
A circular, less than 3 km long walking path, guided by educational informative and guiding boards, will run past many springs at Lake Cerknica. Because of the whole range of rock overhangs and entrances to the spring caves, our workers have to skillfully dig and set up the path above and in some places right at the springs.
Spring Pod pečmi is dry today, but at the end of winter cristal spring is coming out from it.
Izak, Lojz and Andrej at work.
There is still a lot of work to be done. After the 2014 ice storm, there were many branches and twigs left, but our workers had already cleared most of it.
Most of the path can already be walked today. It starts in the village of Gorenje Jezero, near the settlement of Hrastena Njiva and ends in the village of Laze near Gorenje Jezero.
