The weather was not on our side. The beginning of August was unusally rainy, the water level was increasing day by day, we just weren’t able to start working. But we have still made it! On the area of Ključi we gave the Stržen back the look from a good century ago, its stream got his second meander again! The bed of Stržen is now 1,5 km longer.
From now on the water will stay longer in its river-bed and as such it will increase the possibility of surivival of many organisms bound to water, such as crabs, fish, amphibians, birds, water plants and shore plants.
The renovation will contribute to a more afficient and natural cleaning of water. With the project we are improving the condition of priority Natura 2000 habitat type of intermittent lake on the biggest intermittent lake in Europe.
The video shooting below shows the freshly dug up new old bed with a double meander and in between, a century ago aligned bed, that we still have to fill up and burry.
The head of Life Stržen project, Irena Likar, is extremely satisfied. As well as Tine Schein from Notranjska Regional Park. Both of them attentively and carefully monitored the regenerative works. On the scene.
This is how Irena gave instructions for a correct realisation of works to workers of the Nivo Eko company:
We are proud to be a part of this historical moment and are thankful to the building contractor Nivo Eko for an amazing, attentively and carefully performed works, which were extremely demanding!
All we have to do now is bury the even part od the bed, which is nicely seen on the photograph, and the improved ecosystem will begin to live. Before the burying we will, of course catch all the fish and crabs.
