Fickle weather and the changeable nature of Cerknica Lake did it again and prepared for us an unpleasant surprise. The renaturation of watercourse Stržen will have to start a day or two later as planned. You probably know by now what it is all about – Stržen, the main watercourse of Lake Cerknica, who had been submitted by the locals a century ago who made its riverbed straightened to keep the water in it for as long as possible, will get back its original image. Thanks to an extremly demanding procedure, on an even more demanding ground, we will give back the watercourse Stržen its meanders from the Valvasor’s times.

Because of the rainy weekend the waters, on a typical Karst terrain of the intermittent Cerknica Lake, rised again. Rised and made the location where the digging and the meandring is going to take place, unrechable. And made all of us in the Notranjska Park on tenterhooks. The building contractors have to provide the specific mechanisation, suitable to extreme conditions of the place (e.g. diggers with extra large caterpillar tracks), but even this kind of machinery is powerless in high waters. So we keep watching, checking, measuring…

Despite of the very watery conditions on the digging site, we still summoned the meeting of all the key performers and made the official initiation of works. There were representatives of Notranjska Regional Park, representatives of the main contractor Nivo Eco, main supervisor, project leader, health and safety at work coordinator and the representatives of each of the partner of Life Stržen Project.

Who knows, maybe Jezerko will show up and offer us some help. In the opposite way as he had helped the young prince of Šteberk – he should make the water disappear instead of making it stay.
