Students of the Rudolf Maister Gymnasium of Kamnik were greeted by rain upon arrival at the intermittent Cerknica Lake. Then, the rest of the science day dedicated to the preparation for the biology matura exam was spent in a spirit of research and a unique autumn atmosphere.

The intermittent Lake Cerknica caught between the magical Slivnica hill and the wild Javorniki is one of the world’s wonders of nature, so together with the underground of the Križna jama Cave and the natural bridges of Rakov Škocjan, it is also on the list of the most important wetlands on Earth.

In learning about the ecosystems of Lake Cerknica and its edges, students are also helped by the Learning Web point on the Drvošec Trail.
The students learned about the functioning of Lake Cerknica water system and the life along it, adapted to the changing conditions that prevail on this largest intermittent lake in our country. Aquatic invertebrates and frogs are already looking for shelter before the winter, but with some effort we managed to catch a few representatives of animals that have Lake Cerknica as their home.
The wonderful natural show of the sun and the clouds was enriched by the eternal elegance of flocks of great white herons, which were switching for lunch in the shallows of the now full lake.
