Yesterday Notranjski park hosted students from the Primary School of Sežana and did one last natural history day of this school year.
The purpose of our natural history days, which we do in the context of the LIFE Stržen project, is to educate children about the problems this project is dealing with. In that way we introduce the endangered bittern bird to students and pre-school children, we talk about the renawal of river bed Stržen and observe the life at Cerknica lake. Catching small water animals is the most popular activity, also because splashing with barefoot feet in the muddy lake bottom is so much fun!
In this school year we were visited by schools from all regions of Slovenia, and Cerknica lake is the most popular destination for the third- and fifth-graders. Usually they run in the company of our amazing biologist Jošt, who doesn’t mind answering every question that children come up with.
