The nature conservation supervisor of Notranjska Regional Park carries out field supervisions throughout the year, even during the epidemic. Our supervisor inspects various areas of the park and determines its condition in terms of littering, driving, camping and parking in protected areas, moving of the visitors etc. Unfortunately, in his work he often encounters violations and irregularities that reflect the extremely poor attitude of some people towards nature. As if they were not aware that by harming it, they are also harming themselves and their descendants in the long run.
During his last patrolling in the woods between Rakov Škocjan and the path that leads to Stražnik hill, the supervisor came across a wild garbage dump. Someone left an old television and some other debris along the forest path. WE can hardly imagine what must go through the mind of such a person, especially onse he or she had already loaded the things on the vehicle. Why not take them to the municipalitiy`s garbage depot?
Trully sad is the fact, that the litterer obviously came from the local area (since the municipal borders are closed due to COVID-19 precautions), somebody who clearly does not appreciate the privilege of living in such a beautiful natural environment that his ancestors carefully preserved.
A passer-by helped our supervisor load the garbage to the park`s vehicle to drive it to the local garbage depot. Many thanks to the gentleman for his helping hands!
The problem of illegal waste dumps, parking and camping in the middle of protected nature, and illegal building constructions in the protected area of our nature park has been highlighted in the first LIFE short film, Dark Side of Lake Cerknica. Here you can see more images that our conservation supervisor encounters during his walks.
