Our succesfully finalized renaturation of Stržen watercourse`s meanders site, was visited by Slovene Institute for Nature Conservation employees. The Institute is also a partner in our LIFE Stržen Project. They are one of many who come to see our work.
The renaturation of previously straghtened meanders trully was a brave and historic act. There were some who doubted our success. The fact was, that the execution of the works was highly dependent on weather and consequently the water level of the lake. The interventions were performed in an extremely sensitive environment and for the first time in the world on an intermittent lake. But we have succeeded! The intervention has aroused the interest of many experts and nature protection institutions from different parts of Europe, who are also facing the negative consequences of leveling rivers and watercourses. They were interested in how we carried out the work and how our experience could be used elsewhere.
The photos of the tour and the presentation were taken and sent to us by the director of the Institute, Hrvoje Teo Oršanič. He, too, consolidated his belief that everything came to life immediately after the restoration. He hugged the giant pike in his arms and released it immediately afterwards.
