Yesterday, students from Primary school Toneta Šraja Aljoše, Nova vas, visited Cerknica Lake. Notranjska Regional Park and project LIFE Stržen employees guided them by Cerknica Lake. The children learnt a lot about the lake and were also encouraged to be creative with materials they found in nature.
First, all children were given some basic information about the intermittent lake, karst features and animals, living here. Afterwards, we split into two groups: the firstgraders learnt more about the forest and forest animals, while the second and third-year students discovered mysterious water creatues, which are usually unnoticed, since they are so tiny. All of the students got to know the secretive bird Bittern, the star of project LIFE Stržen. They were then able to free their imagination and portray the Bittern or its nest out of natural materials, which they could gather in their surroundings.
After a couple of hours in the warm autumn sun, the children said goodbye with happy faces, and headed home. The teachers suggested that we should see each other again.
