Participants of our Saturday`s LIFE outdoor activity spent the morning with the most interesting guide Alenka Veber who comes from the coldest village of Slovenia – Babno Polje – 25 chilometres away, but still knows everything about the intermittent Lake Cerknica. The group walked the Educational Trail Drvošec, the one still holding the name of “best educational trail of Slovenia”. They have also passed the dried out Lake with its disclosed sinkholes, then they contiued their way into the pleasant shadows of the woods of Drvošec and on to the bird observatories offering spectacular views. They were all taken back to the beginning of the 4-chilometer path by an old horse driven rack-waggon.
Sunday was reserved for bees. We went to family Škrlj farmhouse of the beautiful mountain plateau of Menišija just above Cerknica. We got acquainted with the history and life of bees, took a walk around the glass hive and indulged in some bee products. We got to know the connection of man with this ancient insect more closely and transformed into beekeepers ourselves for a moment. Thanks to the family we could also help ourselves to some home-made snacks and drinks, and many bought family`s honey and other bee products to take home.
The guide of themed activities is financed by the LIFE Stržen project, so it is free of charge for participants.
