The Notranjska Regional Park team keeps emphasizing and repeating publicly how important it is to conserve the untouched nature of Lake Cerknica and encourage the development of sustainable tourism. We are planning to build guiding infrastructure for visitors and educate tourism providers on nature-friendly ways of guiding, which won’t be disturbing for nature or for local people.
One day we decided to stop just talking about it, but rather do something about it. We spent the day picking up trash around the lake and cleaning the shameful wild dumps surrounding it. They are not only spoiling the beautiful landscape, they are also harmful to animals, plants and soil. The saddest thing is that some of the people who are leaving trash in the Park are locals, thus trashing their own environment. The same environment which was preserved thanks to their grandfathers and great-grandfathers, who did their best to conserve this untouched pearl.
