The second issue of Iz tršce, which is being published as part of project LIFE Stržen, has just come out. The main purpose of the newsletter is to regularly inform the public of the results and planned activities of the project.
The bird Bittern, the target species of the project, is at the centre of this issue. The Bittern is one of the 270 species of birds, which have been spotted on Cerknica Lake. This is one of the reasons why this wetland of global significance has to be conserved and why we have to aim to correct past mistakes, which have been caused by intensive agriculture and artificial draining of the lake. This issue talks about how the work of Notranjska Park, nature conservation and agriculture are intertwined today.
We also prepared an article about the unsuccessful plans for a hydroelectric power station on Cerknica Lake and answered some questions that are often addressed to Notranjska Regional Park.
Happy reading!
