Visitors, who came to Cerknica lake last Sunday on June 16th 2019, could see traffic wardens, police cars and representatives of Notanjska Regional Park, who controlled and observed how people consider traffic rules on the area of the lake. In spring and summer time, more specific from 15.3. to 15.11. on Sundays general ban applies to motor vehicles on macadam road from Dolenje jezero parking to the village Otok. Mentioned ban doesn’t apply to owners of parcels and residents of Otok.

Locals and owners of the parcels nearby often turn to Notranjska Regional Park, the Municipality of Cerknica and traffic wardens, because they are bothered by the sound of cars, the dust and by the fact that drivers don’t follow the rules even though there are very visible signs that forbid driving on Sundays from 8:00 to 21:00 o’clock. 

Based on the meeting of the above mentioned organizations we decided that there will be more traffic control focused on driving, parking in the natural environment and traffic signaling during the time where there are more visitors (in Summer and Winter). We would like to emphasize that in the Republic of Slovenia every driving, stopping and parking with motor vehicles within a natural environment is forbidden.

The Sunday initative showed that quite a lot of drivers didn’t care about the ban valid in Cerknica lake, but unfortunately for them this time they got a fine. 15 payment orders were issued altogether.

We will undertake the next initiative very soon. We believe that beside these actions, a tidy infrastructure (walking and cycling trails, piers, bird observatories, information guidance boards and modern information center), which the park, with the help of the LIFE Stržen project, is planning in the lake area, will help us have better circumstances.
