We are approaching August, when the water-bedding, which was aligned a good century ago, will yet again get its old meanders. But because the Spring was so rainy, the water levels of the biggest watercourse of Cerknica lake – Stržen – are still pretty high, for the month of June it has a record height.

At Dolenje Jezero today we measured 143 cm high water level. According to our evaluations the water level would have to decrease for at least 50 cm, for the area of Ključi, where the renaturation will take place, to be accessible.

Preparations for the big event are running according to plans – we have finished a public procurement for the executant of construction work of renaturation and signed a contract with them; this will be the company Nivo Eko. We have already met and arranged the details of the whole process with its representatives.

 

 

 

 

 

 

Shortly we will carry out a field viewing with them; immediately when the water drops enough so the area of Ključi is accessible.

In one week, on June 18th the representatives of Notranjska Regional Park will meet with fishermen from Cerknica fishing family – in the matter of rescuing the fish and the crabs from the area where the works will take place.
